  • Opposing Team Lets the Dodgers Win Again

For the second time this postseason, a team has handed the Dodgers a win. In Game 2 of the NLDS, Matt Holliday dropped a fly ball in the 9th-inning that would have won the game for the Cardinals, but instead tied the game and the next batter for the Dodgers drove in the winning run. Last night, after Pedro Martinez had pitched a brilliant game, Philadelphia 2nd-baseman Chase Utley threw a ball into the Phillies dugout, allowing pinch-runner Juan Pierre to score safely from 3rd base. Jim Thome singled to right, Furcal drew a walk to load the bases, Matt Kemp struck out, and Andre Ethier drew another walk to score the winning run. The Phillies let one runner score on an error, and walked in the second run. The headlines in the paper this morning read “Dodgers Rally Past Phillies in the 8th” and “Andre Ethier, who drove in the winning run on a bases-loaded walk….” Andre Ethier didn’t “drive in” shit. There was no rally. The Phillies pitchers threw terribly, and they lost the game themselves. The Dodgers deserve zero credit for their win yesterday. The series is tied 1-1.
